Now you can find millions of pages of historic newspapers from across New York State in one easy-to-use place! NYSHistoricNewspapers.org began in 2013, created by the Northern New York Library Network with development help from Mike Beccaria of Paul Smith’s College. North Country Library System hosts the project. The purpose of the New York Historic Newspapers project: to digitize and make freely available for research, significant runs of historic newspapers for every county in the state.
NYSHistoricNewspapers.org uses a platform developed by the Library of Congress Newspaper Project (PRONOM software). Users can search by city, county, date, title, and full text keywords. Metadata includes a MARC record, persistent URL, consistent file naming, and OCR for text searching.
